3 Keys for Success with Your Business

Some say the economy is sour, bad, declining. I go to restaurants and see the opposite. I see packed booths, bars that are overflowing with people, fun, and joy. What do you see? I choose to see opportunity rather than doom and gloom.

If you are a builder of dreams, of businesses, you must live in a different world than those who face dread and end up in their grave dead from stress. You must operate in a world of faith, persistence, and massive amounts of patience. In the face of a head wind, you must do it anyway. That is the quest of a serious business person, whether online of in the brick and mortar world. Are you operating with these three key components to success?

1. Faith
2. Persistence
3. Patience

Bob Proctor in his Six Minutes to Success series talks to faith. He says, “Faith is the ability to see the invisible, to believe in the incredible, and to receive the impossible.” Faith is not hoping without action.

You must believe in your ability, make a plan, and go forward with action. Even after you believe in the incredible, you must persist with your plan and actions. Those that succeed did not just happen into success in life or business simply by wishing. Luck did not shine on successful business people just because. No. You need to know that luck happens when you put yourself in the right spot to receive your luck.

Now, I have to be real. Sometimes… no many times, you will have faith in your ability, you will be able to see it in your mind, organize the details, and put it all down on paper. You will persist and begin down the road toward a successful business and find that it isn’t working. What do you do? Do you quit?

I heard something interesting a while back. In the wonderful book Acres of Diamonds it was said that a man had gone out in a field to find diamonds and missed it by only three feet. He gave up and drifted off, dejected and filled with depression. The next man came to the farm and shift his plan by three feet and found the diamonds the first man gave up on. This became one of the biggest diamond finds in the world. How much patience will you have?

Be committed to moving from what you see through faith, into the persistence of deploying your plan and actions, and then keep moving with the patience that you know it is to be for you and your business.

Patience Young Grass Hopper

Over the years, I have had to work very hard to be a more patient individual. My trouble with patience comes down to my personality trait. I am a high red in personality. That means I am prone to be directive rather than easy going. I needed to lead and be commanding. Today, I have managed to coral my shortsighted habit of impatience. Through daily practice and awareness of applying patience, I have been able to go farther than without my impatient ways.

Keep in mind a strength over used can become a weakness. In my case, my solution based model of impatient decisions before thoughtful well-crafted plans was a limiting factor to my career and life. When I decided to change and erase my bad habit, then the lights and opportunities presented themselves to me.

Instead of reacting to words or situations, I chose to use a yellow legal pad to write down or doodle those impatience thoughts without speaking. A wonderful thing happened when I was able to practice patience by using this method. First, I did not speak without having all the facts and make myself look incompetent. Second, my thoughts were captured and presented with more clarity and intended passion. I was able to move mountain faster and farther than I was able to by reacting quickly.

I encourage you to use the yellow pad method to change any habit of impatience that may be causing your heartache. You will gain power in your responses and the confidence of those you need to support your cause. Your conclusions will be more rounded and possibly with more response rather than reaction.
