Facing Fear

Fear! We all have it. We all want to shed it.

Left unshed it drives our lives. It keeps us in check. It creates stress, depression, and hopelessness. So why do we invite it to stay with us?

If you ever intend on reaching your life’s destiny you must conquer your deepest fears. Unconquered and you remain enslaved to life. You will get what you get.

This morning I heard a great statement relating to fear.

“Face the thing you fear and fear will leave you.”

Sounds so simple, yet it is not that simple. It’s the choice you will make to face your fear or accept the life you have now. The billion-dollar question is… what will you choose to do about your fear.

You could face it and defeat it.

You could create affirmations to reprogram your mind.

You could see a hypnotist to get past your fear.

Or… or… you could just decide it is time to stop giving fear any power over your life and start moving forward toward your happiness. I suggest you start walking down the path you intend. Each step will take you further away from what you fear. Soon fear will be in the dust.

Overcome Your Wild Monkey

Do you ever have a conversation with your wild monkey?

It probably sounds like this:

“I want to accomplish X.” Then your resistant might chimes in to answer.

“Who are you kidding? You can’t do X. Remember the last time you tried.”

And the sad part is you believe it. You begin to reason, second-guess yourself, and ultimately chock up the notion to just a thought. Soon after it has no more ether and dies on the vine. Your resistant mind has done battle and won.

Buck up! Grab your self-esteem! Yell, scream, and declare that the wild monkey in your mind is not in charge. You know you can do whatever you set out to do, so just go do it.

Use all the props you can to banish that voice. Use better self-talk, affirmation, goals, declarations, motivational books, CD’s, whatever it takes to keep your wild monkey in check. I have even used a letter to address my voice.

Whatever method you use to talk back to your voice, know it may take continued effort to overcome this voice. Your wild monkey doesn’t know any better. They are in place to shield you from harm. The sad part about it is they are creating more harm than simply allowing you to be free to think, create, and accomplish your life’s dreams.

It will be a battle at times and in the end you will win. Stay the course of positive thoughts and positive actions.

A Smile Can Go a Long Way

If you are like most people, day in and day out you are down in the bump and grind of the moment. We are debating our point, selling our position, or defending our territory. It can be a mad house at times. That is the honest truth. It’s the reality of work and life.

Think honestly, is that you at times. Are you just caught up? And when you reflect at the end of your day, were you happy with the outcome? Was it easy or did the day take a toll on you? Here is a thought, be aware. Be aware of your day and the things that cause you to bog down. Be aware that there is always an easier approach if you find your day was more torture than relaxation.

That easier approach begins in your thought and ends in your action. Think of this, when you are confronted with something that may feel stressful, just stop and smile. A smile can go a long way to cut off a stressful situation or day. That simple smile might also catch the other person you may be dealing with off guard and break their pattern. Just try it.

When the day is all said and done, reflect. Did you let the moments absorb you in a negative way or a positive way? Hopefully, it was a great day. That smile probably turned it around. And last, give some thought to what went right and jot it down in your journal. The following morning read your journal post and begin the day on the right foot. Then smile in the mirror and go have a productive and positive day. Be an influencer of positivity.
