Another year coming to a close. How did you do with your goals? Did you make it, or miss it? Before you go to far into discovering that maybe you missed and plan on beating yourself up over another failure, stop and breath. Relax and enjoy what you did accomplish.
I am asking you to try a new approach. Instead of remembering and laser focusing on all the bad things and missed goals or opportunities, refocus your thoughts. Here are five steps to end up with a different outcome and potentially a better outcome for your goals at the end of 2010.
1. Ask – What went good this past year and how did I achieve that success. Sure, you may not have accomplished all of your goal but you did do something right. Focus on the right not the wrong.
2. Think – What are grateful for that came about in 2009. Surely there are things you cherish, love, and would not trade the world for. Focus on remembering those things.
3. Agree – Leave the past behind and begin a new. Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Sounds cliche and it is really the truth. What you choose to do today affects your tomorrows. Decide to let the past go and move ahead starting right now.
4. Enlist – Accountability partners or personal coaches can help you stay aligned on your goals. They are your tough love partner. Why not decide to employ one to help you reach your dreams.
5. Act – It’s your life, make it happen. Set your goal in affirmation style (as if you already have it), develop a step-by-step plan, and go.
I would love to here how this refocused approach worked for you. I would love to here your stories of what worked out, what went well, what you are grateful for, and where you intend to go in 2010.
