6 Steps to Change Anything

There is continuous chatter about change.  Politicians yammer about changing policy, direction, or the old guard in the White House. Corporate America is professing change in the way business is done. Talk, talk, and talk. And what is the real deal with all this talk? Is it just that… talk?

At work and at life, I am a change agent. I am a heretic that believes the world, life, or people can be different. I believe we need to throw out the old status quo of how things should be and accept that they can be better. And to just talk is only the beginning. Make a conscious choice to take life to the next level. All you need to do is simply apply the following six easy steps for change.

1.            Be aware you want to make a change.

2.            Have a desire to make change. (Pain vs. pleasure) Anthony Robbins.

3.            Visualize the change in a perfect world. (Meditate)

4.            Create affirmations. (Set the habit) NLP

5.            Find the knowledge (others who have gone before you, coaches, mentors)

6.            Put an action plan into action

            A.            Plan based upon your knowledge of the change you want.

            B.            Take action on your plan. (begin)

            C.            Check your progress. Is it working YES / NO

            D.            If YES, keep going. If NO, time to adjust or modify.

7.            Celebrate your success.

My wild-eyed believe remains; we do have it within us to change the world. Your ability to make change in politics, lives, work, or your local community on a grand scale is within your reach. Your ability is in your heart. That’s the single most important piece of information you need to know. That piece is your desire to change something, anything. Tap into your power and go change anything.

My Fitness Challenge

img_3325

img_3325Here is a recent picture of me and it certainly shares a story of choice. The choice this picture shares is eat, eat, eat, and no exercise equals tub of lard. This picture showed what time and wrong food choices can do to a person.  This picture conjures up the pain of my future if I don’t change my habits.

I believe change begins with a picture, visually or mentally, of pain. What is it that you are no longer going to settle for? I choose to no longer be fat, to no longer do donuts for breakfast, and have a healthier life so I can enjoy people and life longer. This is my declaration for change in my life.

To diet will not work for me. I have taken that road and it is a road to failure. What I need is a new lifestyle. What I need are better choices about the foods I put into my body and about the amount of activity I engage in every day. I need willpower.

This is my plan for success:

1.  Daily meditation to visualize my perfect body by August 2009.

2.  Read and visualized change through power affirmations.  Here is my first one.

“I am becoming thinner and healthier day by day.”

3.  Stop eating donuts in the morning and drinking cokes in the afternoon. Replace each with fresh fruit and water.

4.  Only eat white meats and fish for dinner. Eliminate all red meat.

5.  The 21-day challenge. Walk 12,000 steps every day.

6.  Track my progress each week in a journal. Reward for successes and adjust for failures.

Another key to success is accountability. In this case I need some. A partner or coach is the ticket to success. This is the case in all things you set out to change or accomplish. This will help me overcome my lack of personal willpower. Make sure who ever you choose as an accountability partner is in this to help you win. They should be a motivator, whip cracker when needed, and yet hold certain amount of compassion for you.

Follow me as I transform my fat laced body into a healthier me. I will present updated every week on Tuesday from now until August 2009. You will be able to see if progress is being made or I am failing. I encourage you to send me notes of encouragement and if you see I am not meeting my goal, please call me on that as well.

Core Values Matter

flagraising

flagraisingAmerica’s greatest heroes are our soldiers who defend and protect our liberty. Without the dedication and sacrifice of these men and women our freedom would be at stake. That is not an option. They are the brave ones who stand at the face of demons in our world and say, “I don’t think so.”

Values these men and women hold are the fuel that drives their cause. The Marine core has a set of core values that every Marine lives by. These values are honor, courage, and commitment. These brave souls choose to defend our rights with valor in the face of evil and danger with absolute resolution for the cause. These are my heroes.

In our own lives we can take lessons from the Marine Corp’s core values. We can decide to act and speak kindly to our friend and our enemies. It’s the old adage of turn the other cheek. Screaming, yelling, and fighting only cause our blood to boil and our heart to weaken. Cut out excess stress in your life by doing something exceptional for a friend and smiling at an enemy.

When it is time for change in our lives, courage is the bedrock that will guide us forward. Courage cancels out fear. It allows us to takes steps into the unknown for potential gain of something valuable. When you feel fear sneaking up on you, kill it with courage. Take the step anyway. What you fear is probably only a mirage. It’s a figment of your imagination.

Change requires commitment. We need to be resolute about the things we dream of being, doing, or having. Like the Marines who were resolute at the beaches of Normandy, we need to live with faith and commitment for the mission we choose in our lives.

The core values of the Marines are three powerful actions that mold the men and women who choose to defend our freedom and liberty. In everyday life, these values matter for anyone willing to be better today than they were yesterday, and even better tomorrow than they are today.

The glue that holds these values together and helps them work is willpower. Willpower is the personal determination that allows honor, courage, and commitment. What are you committed to change in your life and do you have the willpower to honor your commitments with courage?
