Reflect, Renew, and Rejoice

Life is busy. Some days we move at lightening speed. And that can keep us caught up in stress, worry, time crunches, and an overall pang in our chest for silence and some peace. What do you choose to do?

Choose to stop, look, and move calmly toward your daily mission. Rushing and dashing will leave you at the same place as a methodical even pace jaunt toward your daily mission. Funny how life works at times.

Think about driving a car. You are dashing down the highway bent on passing up slow pokes and leaving Sunday drivers far into your rear view mirror. You step on it, blurt out a few choice words about the slow drivers inept abilities and zoom to the next red light. And as you stop guess who pulls up? That’s right, it’s that slow poke you thought was holding you back. Odd how you both arrive at the light at the same time, except that you are more stressed out and the slow poke is calm, relaxed, and ready to methodically move toward the next light.

Try this:

Stop the madness. Take a needed break and few deep breaths. Now reflect on your day. What is going to happen if you take different approach? You will probably arrive at the same place you envisioned without so much stress and strife.

Choose a different path. After you reflect, decide to renew your way forward. Choose calmness, a nice pace, and lower stress. This will do wonders for your heart and ability to smile more throughout the day.

Reward the journey. If you reflect on your day and renew your way forward you have earned the right to rejoice in a reward for your calm trek forward. Look into the mirror and rejoice in your success. Notice the gentle smile and slowed pace in your heart.

Now, go teach someone else to do the same. This is your gift to the world of rush, rush, rush.

Three Feet from Gold

He was just three feet from striking gold and gave up. That is the story of the man who staked a claim and expected to get rich. After he had run through his money, expended his energy, and become jaded about his dream he finally was defeated and gave up. Just another three feet and he would have realized his dreams of striking it rich by finding gold.

What have you give up on in life?

We all tend to come to the end of our rope and declare it over. We accept failure by quitting.  This choice dictates a consequence we don’t necessarily want. Yet, if you are like me that choice will eat away at your mind. You will wonder, what if. What if  I had dug three feet deeper and struck my gold.

Don’t accept the consequence of failure.

Get up, dig deeper, plan better, find a mentor, get some more knowledge but never give up.

Here is something that may help.

1. Take out a sheet of paper and write down everything that is wrong in your life. I know, I know, just do it.

2. Now, turn on your shredder and run that sheet of wrongs through it. They are now gone and you are free to start over.

3. Get a new sheet of paper and write down everything you are grateful for in life. Write it all down. Fold it up and carry it with you for reference every day.

It’s your three feet. Will you choose to keep digging our will you quit? There is no reward in quitting. Choose to dig.

A Smile Can Go a Long Way

If you are like most people, day in and day out you are down in the bump and grind of the moment. We are debating our point, selling our position, or defending our territory. It can be a mad house at times. That is the honest truth. It’s the reality of work and life.

Think honestly, is that you at times. Are you just caught up? And when you reflect at the end of your day, were you happy with the outcome? Was it easy or did the day take a toll on you? Here is a thought, be aware. Be aware of your day and the things that cause you to bog down. Be aware that there is always an easier approach if you find your day was more torture than relaxation.

That easier approach begins in your thought and ends in your action. Think of this, when you are confronted with something that may feel stressful, just stop and smile. A smile can go a long way to cut off a stressful situation or day. That simple smile might also catch the other person you may be dealing with off guard and break their pattern. Just try it.

When the day is all said and done, reflect. Did you let the moments absorb you in a negative way or a positive way? Hopefully, it was a great day. That smile probably turned it around. And last, give some thought to what went right and jot it down in your journal. The following morning read your journal post and begin the day on the right foot. Then smile in the mirror and go have a productive and positive day. Be an influencer of positivity.
